Our philosophy of “Mind, body and planet are one” is one that’s embraced by our community.
For us to have the strength to fight climate change, we need to strengthen our minds, bodies, and souls. We have partnered with some amazing teachers and health professionals to provide our community with weekly Yoga, Fitness, Meditation and Mental Health seminars.
Our community members will receive free, live weekly classes as our way of saying thank you and strengthening our community. Fitness and Yoga classes will be available for all skill levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced). Our meditation, diet and mental health seminars apply to people of all ages. We will be launching these programs in the very near future.

    BIOCHAR

    Research &
    Development

CarbonTrees is currently involved in studies exploring the use of wood-based biochar in forests and reforestation projects as a tool to fight invasive species and sequester carbon.

Please email us for more info: Research@CarbonTrees.org

    Biochar
Wood based biochar is made from wood waste at logging sites, pulp mills and saw mills. The wood waste is “baked” (pyrolyzed) in a high temperature kiln (Pyrolizer) that’s deprived of oxygen. This produces a very high quality “charcoal” (Biochar) that’s then distributed on the forest floor as an alternative to fertilizers and a natural substitute for forest fires. This “char” also plays a valuable role in carbonizing soil and keeping carbon in the soil.
    Biochar Research
We will be publishing further details on our research in the near future. We are not currently using Biochar on our own planting projects.
As we continue to grow, we’d like to be a part of cutting-edge research in the fields of Forestry, Silviculture, Biochar, Conservation and carbon sequestration. Do you have a research project that’s in search of funding and/or support? Do you require a piece of land to conduct your research?

    Sustainability Tips

*Follow these suggestions to heal your planet while saving money and feeling great! Very minimal effort required

    Eat LESS meat.

It’s estimated that cattle farming accounts for up to 20% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. A recent University of Chicago climate study indicated that if the entire United States reduced its meat consumption by 20%, it would be the equivalent of the entire country changing from fossil fuel vehicles to hybrid vehicles.

    Don't Waste Food!

Each year, 1.6 billion tons of wasted food is thrown in the garbage while 3 billion people are without food or food security. When shopping for food, purchase planned and portioned meals, instead of random groceries. Freeze things that are about to go bad. Make use of bones, peels and scraps for making things like stocks, broths and soups.

    Say NO to junk mail.

The average mailbox in North America receives 42 POUNDS of junk mail per year. That junk has a carbon footprint of up to 150lbs per mailbox. Saying no to junk mail will inevitably reduce and eliminate its’ output.

    LESS imported and bottled beverages.

There is no need to have water from the mountains of France or the caves of Fiji put on an airplane or cargo ship for our local consumption. North America for example, has the world’s largest supply of clean freshwater. If you must consume bottled beverages, attempt to consume local beverages in glass bottles or biodegradable packing.

    LESS business travel.

Local and international meetings can often be conducted over the phone or by with video-conferencing systems like Zoom and Skype. The average executive will reduce their annual carbon footprint by upwards of 5 tones, simply by eliminating one return flight and 3 local drive-to meetings.

    Drive better and drive LESS.

Take public or active transportation once a week to reduce your carbon footprint by up to 1 ton. Research indicates that you can consume up to 30% less fuel when driving if you:
    • Accelerate slowly and smoothly
    • Maintain a steady speed
    • Drive the speed limit
    • Anticipate your starts and stops
    • Keeping your tires properly inflated (summer and winter).
    • Keep your car serviced and healthy

    LESS imported and bottled beverages.

Lower your thermostat when you’re not home. A programmable thermostat usually pays for itself (approx. $50) in the first year and provides an average cost savings of 20% a month.

    EAT Local

Consume more local goods, foods and materials. Transportation is a MAJOR cause of GHG emissions and subsequent carbon footprint increases.

    Hang dry clothing

Dryers are usually the most energy-consuming appliances in households. Dryers are also the main cause of clothing discoloration and disfiguration.

    Upcycle

Refinish, re-purpose, reuse and reinvent. Sell or donate things you don’t need or want anymore

    Consume LESS

Purchase longer lasting, more sustainable clothing. Buy used furniture on sites such as Craigslist, Kijiji etc. Garment and furniture manufacturing, shipping, and waste are major contributors to climate change.

    Recycle + Compost

By recycling, you contribute to a decreased global demand for raw materials and decreased emissions. This has a major impact on our planet and on our communities. In addition, municipalities earn money by selling your recycling which typically reduces your tax burden.

    PLANT TREES

Plant trees to offset your carbon emissions, environmental impact and give back to your planet!
